CHICAGO — A Texas man was charged in connection with death of his 4-year-old son, who was thrown through the windshield of an SUV on the Dan Ryan Expressway Sunday evening, the Tribune reported.

Franklin L. Jackson, 46, of League City, Texas, was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI, the Tribune reported.  He was ordered held on $250,000 bail Wednesday, according to the Tribune.

The boy was thrown from a car when it crashed in the inbound lanes near 87th Street, Illinois State Police said earlier this week.

The boy, Franklin Leon Jackson Jr., was taken to Comer Children's Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

The Tribune reported that Jackson was traveling with his wife and kids when his Ford Expedition hit a guardrail twice.

Jackson didn't know his son was missing until he drove to the 83rd Street exit to determine how bad his car was damaged, the Tribune reported.

Franklin was among four children under the age of three inside the car, the rest of whom were not injured, police said.

Prosecutors said Jackson admitted to drinking and driving, according to the Tribune.

It did not appear that Franklin was restrained at the time of the crash, state police said. All the other children were wearing seat belts, the Tribune reported.
