NEAR WEST SIDE — Residents are being warned to be on guard for carjackers after a pair of incidents reported earlier this month.

The Near West (12th) Police District issued a community alert Tuesday, notifying residents of carjackings that took place Dec. 14 and Dec. 19.

In both instances, the offenders approached while the victim was inside or near their vehicle and showed or implied the presence of a weapon. The suspects then made off with the victims' property and car.

The first incident took place at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the 100 block of North Paulina Street; the second took place at approximately 3:15 a.m. in the 200 block of South Leavitt Street.

The offenders are described as black males, 18-29 years of age.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call Area Central Bureau of Detectives at 312-747-8380.
