CHICAGO — Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in Monday's fatal shooting of a 23-year-old male during a robbery attempt.

Daquon Renfro, 19, of the 6000 block of South Wabash Avenue, and Antonio Cox, 20, of the 8400 block of South Throop Street, were each charged with murder and attempted armed robbery.

Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, the victim, identified as Christopher Lang, of the 3400 block of West 72nd Place, was walking on the sidewalk near his home in Chicago Lawn when a dark sedan pulled up and shots were fired, striking the man in his chest. Lang was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Before the shooting, Renfro and Cox approached Lang and said they wanted to buy marijuana, but then they pulled a gun in an attempt to rob him, the Sun-Times reported.

Prosecutors said Renfro shot Lang, who was able to dial 911 before he died, according to the Sun-Times.

The Sun-Times reported Renfro was ordered held without bail, and Cox was held on $2 million bail in a court hearing Wednesday.
