CHICAGO — Chicago police are turning to the public for help after two men were gunned down in the Jackson Park Highlands neighborhood Thursday.

About 4:45 a.m., Willie Cooper, 74, was found shot repeatedly in a car in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue, police said. A short time later, Eric Davis, 41, was found dead behind the wheel of a car in the 6700 block of South East End Avenue, shot in the torso and neck in "an apparent robbery."

The men were shot to death three blocks from each other in separate incidents, and police cannot say whether the two shootings are related.

Davis was an up-and-coming bluesman who earned the nickname "Guitar." Cooper was a retired CTA bus driver who served as a deacon at his church.

Police are looking for information to help solve the crimes, the department said in a statement. Anyone with information on "suspicious activity in this area or who has heard anything about these incidents" will be treated confidentially, police said.

People with information can call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380 or by texting the CPD Text to Tip hotline at 274637. Any text messages must begin with the letters "CPD" followed by tip information.
