STREETERVILLE — The Dominick's at 255 E. Grand Ave. will close Saturday, Dec. 28, with massive markdowns on grocery items, general merchandise and liquor coming this Friday and Monday.

Manager Earnest Perkins said Wednesday that the store will cut prices by 50 percent on all grocery items and general merchandise starting Friday, Dec. 13.

On Monday Dec. 16, prices on all liquor will see a 30 percent price cut, Perkins said, and those sales will continue until closing.

While all Dominick's stores citywide are closing, individual locations have different closing dates and sales schedules.

When Dominick's in  Ukrainian Village cut its prices by half, bargain shoppers lined up as early as 6 a.m. to shop the heavily discounted merchandise.

To handle the crowds during its three-week closing sale, a manager of the Dominick's at 2021 W. Chicago Ave. said that the store had brought in about 10 percent to 15 percent more staff.

Perkins said he and staff of the Streeterville Dominick's had not been notified of any plans to replace the store with a new grocer.

Last week, Mariano's bought three Chicago Dominick's locations to convert, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel launched a task force to explore replacing more vacant Dominick's with other vendors.
