LINCOLN SQUARE — Think you've got what it takes to become the next Half Acre?

Enter your home brews in the Square Kegs Home Brew Club's annual competition, set to culminate at the Winter Brew festival Jan. 25, when winners will be announced.

Brews will be accepted in more than 20 categories. Competitors can submit up to 10 entries, at a fee of $10 each, but only one entry per sub-category — ie, entering a Belgian Dubbel and a Belgian Tripel is allowed, entering two Belgian Tripels is not.

The total number of entries for the competition is capped at 256.

The first place entry in each category will advance to the Best of Show round, in which a single overall winning beer will be selected. Strategically choosing an obscure category likely to draw few if any competitors — Gueuze springs to mind — does not automatically provide an advantage, as categories may be combined for judging, based on the number of entries for any given brew.

Registration is online only. The competition is open to all amateur home brewers aged 21 and older.

Brew Camp, 4639 N. Damen Ave., will serve as the official drop-off location for entries, which will be accepted through Jan. 10 at 6 p.m.
