CHICAGO — A Cicero man is dead after an early Monday morning exchange of gunfire in East Garfield Park, authorities said.

The 32-year-old man, identified as LaChris Hendricks by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was one of two men wounded in the incident that occurred at 12:13 a.m. in the 2900 block of West Jackson Boulevard, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The two men appeared to be shooting at one another, but it is uncertain who was the instigator.

The other man, a 30-year-old, was sitting in a car and was shot in his buttocks and right leg. He was driven to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Hendricks was shot in his chest, arm and hand, Zala said. He stumbled to the 2900 West Adams Street and was taken to Mount Sinai in critical condition.

Police found a gun nearby, Zala said.

Hendricks, of the 1200 block of West 48th Court in Cicero, was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m. Monday, medical examiners said.
