LINCOLN SQUARE — You gotta spend money to make money.
Sure, it's a cliche, but it also happens to be true when it comes to shopping in Lincoln Square and Ravenswood this holiday season.
For the second year, the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a reward program for shopping local: Unwrap Lincoln Square & Ravenswood.
The promotion kicks off Nov. 23 and runs through Dec. 24.
The first 150 shoppers who spend at least $300 between a minimum of three local businesses — i.e., no Walgreens, Subway or Jewel — will receive a $50 gift certificate to a restaurant in the community.
Eligible businesses are located between Foster Avenue to the north, Montrose Avenue to the south, the Chicago River to the west and Ashland Avenue to the east.
Fine points for shoppers to remember when collecting receipts: tax or gratuity doesn't count toward the total; a minimum of $25 must be spent at a business for the purchase to qualify; a maximum of $100 can be spent on food and/or alcohol. Medications and memberships aren't applicable toward the $300 total.
Once the requirements have been met, shoppers must submit copies of their receipts, along with contact information — name, address, phone number, email — to the Chamber of Commerce, 2611 W. Lawrence Ave.
The final day to submit receipts is Jan. 3, 2014.
