CHICAGO — High winds may have caused an Avondale church's steeple to become unstable Sunday evening.

The swaying steeple atop Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2645 W. Belmont Ave. caused road closures and traffic delays in the Avondale neighborhood after authorities were alerted the steeple may become disconnected from the church.

Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, police closed off Belmont between California and Rockwell avenues, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.
