CHICAGO — A 64-year-old man is dead after he drove his car into Lake Michigan Thursday night, police said.
The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. as the man drove east on Balbo Drive and failed to turn onto Lake Shore Drive, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.
Divers from the Chicago Fire Department found the car, and paramedics took the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he later died, police said.
The man was identified as Steven Halperin of the 800 block of South Plymouth Court in the South Loop. He died at 11:07 p.m. according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
