
CHICAGO — One person was killed and five were injured in three separate car crashes that snarled traffic on the Dan Ryan Expy. Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 5 a.m., several cars collided in the inbound lanes near 85th Street, State Police said. The far left lane remained open, but all others were closed as of 7 a.m.
State Police confirmed that one person died in the crash. The Chicago Fire Department took three adults to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, and a child was rushed to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition, fire officials said.
Monique Nash, a 31-year-old from the 6400 block of South Campbell Avenue in Gage Park, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 5:59 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
About 5:18 a.m., another crash occurred in the inbound local lanes near 43rd Street. This site was cleared by 7 a.m., according to State Police. Fire officials said one woman was taken to Mercy Hospital in good condition with minor injuries.
About 5:30 a.m., a third crash took place in the inbound express lanes near 47th Street. At 7 a.m., a state trooper arrived at the scene. No lane closures were expected, and no ambulances were called, police said.
