One Killed, Four Wounded In Shootings Across the City

CHICAGO LAWN — One person was killed and another four men were hospitalized in shootings across the city overnight Monday.

Police responded to calls of a shooting about 7 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Talman Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

Officers found Jose Rodriquez, 30, shot once in his face, authorities said. Rodriquez was pronounced dead on the scene about 7:15 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one was in custody as of Tuesday morning, but police are investigating whether the shooting was gang related. Rodriquez, of the 6000 block of South Talman Avenue, had documented gang ties, police said.

In other shootings:

• At 8:38 p.m., a 22-year-old man walked into Loretto Hospital with a gunshot wound in his hand. Police did not have details of the shooting but said the man was wounded in the 300 block of South Lotus Avenue in Austin.

• About 7:15 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot in his leg in the 1600 block of South Homan Avenue in North Lawndale. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

•At 6:30 p.m., a man in his 20s was shot in his neck in the 800 block of North Lavergne Avenue in Austin. The man was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

•At 6:02 p.m., a man in his 20s was shot "repeatedly" in the buttocks and lower back in the 5000 block of South Cottage Grove, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition stabilized, Gaines said.
