CHICAGO — Two men were killed and two people — including a woman who shot herself in police custody — were wounded in shootings Saturday night and Sunday.
The most recent homicide happened about 10:50 p.m. Saturday in East Garfield Park, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.
Cops found a 27-year-old man unresponsive in a vacant lot in the 3300 block of West Van Buren Street.
Jason Jernigan, of the 3400 block of West Adams Street, had been shot in his chest and abdomen and was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:07 p.m., authorities said.
Several hours earlier, 18-year-old Antonio Cooper was fatally shot in his chest and buttocks in West Englewood.
Police found the teen in the 6500 block of South Hermitage about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Sullivan said. Cops believe the shooting have been drug-related, but offered few other details.
Cooper, who lived in the 1700 block of West 64th Street, was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:23 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
In non-fatal shootings:
• A 26-year-old man was shot in West Englewood about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Sullivan said. The man was inside a residence in the 6100 block of South Bishop Street when another man opened fire.
The victim — who cops said was not being cooperative — was listed in "good condition" at Holy Cross Hospital early Sunday.
• Shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, a woman in police custody accidentally shot herself in Armour Square, Sullivan said.
Male officers had arrested the woman and placed her in the back of a squad car in the 3300 block of South Wentworth Avenue around 5:15 p.m. While the cops waited for a female officer to arrive to search the woman, she accidentally fired a gun she was trying to hide.
The woman was struck in her lower right torso and listed in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Police wouldn't provide details of the woman's arrest.
As of early Sunday, no one was in custody for any of the shootings.
