LAKEVIEW — Nail Bar on Southport officially closed its doors Friday, a long anticipated shuttering since the building's new owners announced a plan to attract a new retail tenant for the space earlier this year.

But Nail Bar, 3444 N. Southport Ave., owns other locations, and Southport employees will soon move to either its Boystown location, 3228 N. Broadway, or the Lincoln Park location, 537 W. Diversey Pkwy., according to the company's Facebook page.

The post also details where specific employees will be relocated.

"Please understand that this is a terrible loss, and we will miss the people and the community immensely," the company wrote.

Gift cards and Belly points for at the Southport location can be redeemed at other Nail Bar locations.

Real estate company L3 Capital has purchased several buildings on the popular shopping corridor and said this summer that it planned to combine the Nail Bar space with the Anthony's Italian Ice space at 3442 N. Southport Ave.

The goal is to add some upscale retail tenants in the vein of Alice and Olivia or Theory to the street, according company principal Greg Schott. The Nail Bar and Anthony's space was targeted to be refilled first.

Anthony's Italian Ice also closed this week but owner Michael Mednick managed to find another store to stay on the street.

L3 Capital spokesman Mark Thomton said no new business has been signed yet for the combined 5,600 square feet of space.
