LAKEVIEW — Southport residents looking for an Italian ice fix will have to wait — Anthony's Italian Ice shut down its current location Thursday and won't open its new one for about a month, the owner said.
The restaurant and iced treat spot needed to move from the 3442 N. Southport Ave. location because new building owners L3 Capital plan to combine the space with the Nail Bar next door and find new, upscale retail tenants.
Anthony's had been there since 2004.
Luckily for Southport Anthony's fans, owner Michael Mednick got his hands on another store at 3548 N. Southport Ave., near Southport Grocery. The new shop won't be ready for business for some four to six weeks, he said.
When it opens, fans can look forward to an expanded menu. The same classic Italian ice will stay but Mednick plans on adding more items like smoothies or green drinks, he said.
"I'm really excited," Mednick said. "It's a good move."
