WEST ENGLEWOOD — A 54-year-old man was found dead after being shot in West Englewood Monday morning, cops said.
About 5:25 a.m. Monday, cops found him lying dead in the 1200 block of West 72nd Place. The man had been shot multiple times, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.
As the sun came up, police were seen taking photos of a body covered in a white sheet outside a home.
The man was identifed as Todd Coleman, of the 1200 block of West 72nd Place, by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Neighbors at the scene, who declined to be identified, said a lot of boys in their teens or young men in their 20s hang out on this block, and they were surprised to learn the shooting victim was in his 50s.
They also said that while shootings happen in the neighborhood, they rarely hear of them happening this early in the morning.
"The only people out here that early are people going to work or kids going to school," one resident said.
