A Parade, Scary Movies and a Loft Party Among Area Halloween Events

LOGAN SQUARE — Halloween falling on a weekday may make for rough mornings after a night of partying.

On the upside though, it also means the Halloween fun lasts all the way from the weekend before Halloween to the day itself.

This year, the fun starts Friday with scary movies at Logan Theatre, then continues for five more days of dancing, live music, a parade and more.

Here's a list of some of the Halloween happenings in Logan Square, Avondale and Humboldt Park:

Friday

Scary movies

The Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave., will show "The Shining" at 10:30 p.m. and "Trick 'r Treat" at 11 p.m.

Saturday

Unity Park Pumpkin Fest

Unity Park, 2636 N. Kimball Ave., will host Pumpkin Fest, an all-ages event with free pumpkins, popcorn, face painting, pumpkin decorating and photo opportunities. DJ Rebel X69 will provide family-friendly mixes. Costumes are optional. 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Sway Dance's Third Annual 'Thriller' Party

Chief O'Neill's, 3471 N. Elston Ave., will host Sway Dance's Third Annual "Thriller" Party. There will be a Salsa dance lesson at 7 p.m. followed by a party at 8. Costumes " are admired but not required," though there will be a costume contest. There will also be "social" dancing and a cash bar. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. 7-11 p.m.

The Numbered Days Halloween Loft Party

The Numbered Days is putting on a Halloween Loft Party at the Logan Square Auditorium, 2639 N. Kedzie Blvd. Tickets are $20 and can be bought here. 9 p.m.

The Logan Theatre will show "The Shining" at 10:30 p.m. and "Trick 'r Treat" at 11 p.m.

Sunday

10th Annual Logan Square Halloween Parade

The kid-friendly 10th Annual Logan Square Halloween Parade will step off from the Illinois Centennial Monument at 5:30 p.m. Parade walkers will walk down Kedzie Boulevard then loop around to come back and end up at Lula Cafe for warm apple cider and fresh-baked cookies. Some Mucca Pazza band members are expected to be on hand, and paraders are encouraged to bring noisemakers of their own. 5 p.m.

Monday

Scary movies

The Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave., will show "The Shining" at 10:30 p.m. and "Trick 'r Treat" at 11 p.m.

Tuesday

'Pet Sematary'

The Logan Theatre will show "Pet Sematary" at 10:30 p.m.

Wednesday

'Pet Sematary'

The Logan Theatre will show "Pet Sematary" at 10:30 p.m.

Thursday

Healthy Halloween

The Richard M. Daley Library, 733 N. Kedzie Ave., will host a "Healthy Halloween" event for kids featuring a costume contest, pumpkin-decorating contest, treat bags and healthy snacks. 3:30-6:30 p.m.

Lula Cafe Halloween Party

Lula Cafe, 2537 N. Kedzie Blvd., will continue its longstanding tradition of "dressing up" as another bar or restaurant (past transformations include Taco Hell, the Violent Hour, Luma's Corner, etc.) Event schedule and details to come.

Halloween 'Thriller' Dance Party

Duet Dance Studio, 2515 W. North Ave., will host a Halloween "Thriller" Dance Party where guests will learn the "Thriller" dance and partner dance basics in a 45-minute Beginner Dance Class and 30-minute Opening Dancing. Guests are encouraged to come in costumes to win prizes for best costumes. The party is BYOB and participants must be 21 and older. Cost is $20 per person. Tickets can be bought here. 8-9:30 p.m.

Scofflaw's 2nd Annual Bonny's Halloween Party

Scofflaw, 3201 W. Armitage Ave., will summon the ghost of Bonny's for this Halloween night party featuring drink and food specials, party shots and tunes spun by Superfriends and Major Taylor. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Heavy Times Halloween Death Trip at the Owl

The Owl, 2521 N. Milwaukee Ave., will host a free show featuring Heavy Times, Le Tour and HoZac DJs. 10 p.m.-4 a.m.
