CHICAGO — Police responding to a domestic disturbance call shot and killed a 60-year-old woman in Roseland Thursday.

The call came about 6:40 p.m. in the 10900 block of South Eberhart Avenue, according to a police statement. When cops arrived on the scene, they were told a woman was armed with a knife and possibly under the influence of drugs.

When officers entered the apartment, the woman came from a bedroom with a butcher knife in her hand, police said.

The officers told the woman to put the knife down, but she ignored them before raising the knife and approaching the officers "in a threatening manner," according to the statement. An officer opened fire, killing the woman.

Angelique Styles, 60, who lived in the apartment where she was killed, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 8:03 p.m. Thursday.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
