AUBURN GRESHAM — Police are asking for help after a 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted walking to school Monday morning.

The girl was heading to a bus stop in the 8700 block of South Halsted Street when a man approached her and asked for change about 8 a.m., police said.

When the girl refused, the man dragged her behind an abandoned building and sexually assaulted her. The victim then went to school, where she reported the attack.

Cops describe the assailant as a 5-foot-7 black man — about 19 years old. He's husky with a dark complexion, and his fingernails are bitten down to the skin.

Police said the attacker was wearing a black skullcap, a black lower-half ski mask, red jacket with white and blue stripes down the sleeves, dark blue True Religion jeans and white Air Force One sneakers.

Anyone with information should call detectives at 312-747-8271. Police urge parents not to let their children walk to school alone.
