NORTH CENTER — There's a first time for everything, including CHIRP Radio's "The First Time" music and reading series' inaugural outing at Martyrs'.

The three-year-old series, which has bounced around various venues including the Beat Kitchen and Uncommon Ground, settles in at Martyrs', 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"The First Time" features seven guests reading original works based on a common "first" theme: first car, first job, etc. Each reading is followed by a song that relates to the story, played live by The First Time Three — musicians, Steve Frisbie, Liam Davis and Gerald Dowd.

For its debut at Martyrs', "The First Time" gets a jump on Halloween with a "First Scare" theme. Scheduled readers are: Windy City Live contributor Ji Suk Yi, comedian Adam Burke, DJ Scary Lady Sarah of American Gothic Productions, writer Shannon Cason, Ellen LeKostaj of StorySlam Chicago, musician Steve Frisbie and CHIRP DJ Helean Lee.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. The First Time is a benefit for CHIRP.
