THE LOOP — An argument in the Loop Monday night turned violent and left one man in the hospital with stab wounds, authorities said.

About 10:50 p.m. Monday, two men got into an argument with a 31-year-old man in the first block of East Wacker Drive, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

The argument "escalated and turned physical" when the 31-year-old man attacked the other two men, Mirabelli said, but the two men fended off the attack with a knife and cut him.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was treated for cuts on his face and chest, Mirabelli said.

Police took two men into custody after the fight but later released them because it appeared they were defending themselves, Mirabelli said.

The wounded man, who was in good condition early Tuesday morning, was not cooperating with police, Mirabelli said.
