ANDERSONVILLE — The Food Network's quest to find the best home cooks in the nation is coming to Andersonville this weekend.

The producers of "The Great Food Truck Race," recently put out a casting call for a new show, “America’s Greatest Home Cook,” and plans to hold tryouts for amateur food fanatics with cooking chops at the Wooden Spoon, a kitchenware store and cooking school at 5047 N. Clark St.

Tryouts are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Wooden Spoon spokesman Scott Anderson.

Casting directors seek undiscovered talents who possess the type of skills in the kitchen that keep friends and family members begging for a dinner invite. The tryout is for amateur home cooks who have never graduated culinary school or gained extensive experience in a professional kitchen.

“If you are a food fanatic and a truly skilled home cook who prepares elevated dishes completely from scratch, this is your chance!” the casting call website says.

Contestants selected for the show will compete for cash — and bragging rights.

The Food Network asks that contestants either apply ahead of time or show up at the Wooden Spoon with a savory dish prepared.
