CHICAGO — Authorities were called off the scene after a report of suspicious package in the Loop turned out to be a harmless portable cooler Wednesday morning, police said.

The suspicious package was reported at Van Buren Street and Michigan Avenue about 6:50 a.m., said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.

The Chicago Fire Department, which was standing by to assist police, said the investigation was called off about 8:25 a.m. after they determined there was "no threat."

The "suspicious package" turned out to be a small Igloo brand cooler, Sullivan said.

Several Metra and South Shore commuter trains had been stopped because of the incident, but trains started moving again after authorities wrapped things up at the scene.
