CHICAGO — Police are warning West Side residents of an attempted child abduction in the South Austin neighborhood.

On Friday, about 9:30 a.m., police say a man driving a black Nissan honked his horn and beckoned to a 14-year-old girl walking to a store on the corner of Madison Street and Central Avenue. The man followed the girl into the store and talked to her again outside, police said.

When the girl tried to walk away, the man pulled on her arm. She broke free and the man drove off.

He is described as a black man in his mid-20s, 5-foot-5, 170 pounds wearing a short, neatly trimmed beard.

Anyone with information should call Area North detectives at 312-744-8266.
