CHICAGO — An infant found unresponsive in his West Englewood home Thursday was murdered, an autopsy released Friday showed.

Four-month-old Demari Brown was found unresponsive by his parents about 11 a.m. in his home in the 6000 block of South Honore Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and police.

Demari was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. An autopsy from the medical examiner's office showed the boy suffered several blunt force injuries and child abuse, ruling his death a homicide.

Officials from the Department of Children and Family Services are investigating Demari's mother, father and grandmother for abuse, said Dave Clarkin, DCFS spokesman.

The investigation was launched after DCFS received a hotline tip about Demari's death about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Clarkin said.

DCFS has not investigated the family before. Four other children, relatives of Demari, were in the home, but have since moved out, Clarkin said.

Police are pursuing the case as a death investigation as of Friday afternoon, said Officer Jose Estrada, police spokesman.
