NEAR WEST SIDE — Four University of Illinois at Chicago buildings were evacuated after a construction company hit a natural gas line early Tuesday morning, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The school's Science and Engineering office, Science and Engineering lab, engineering research facility and Burnham Hall were evacuated Tuesday morning about 10 a.m. because of a ruptured gas line in the 900 block of West Taylor Street, UIC spokeswoman Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez said.

By 11 a.m., the gas line had been fixed, and the Fire Department was checking air levels inside the buildings, McGinnis Gonzalez said.

No injuries were reported, UIC spokesman Bill Burton said.
