CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel is slated to make his Food Network debut Sunday night.
Emanuel will appear on "The Great Food Truck Race," a weekly show that follows fledgling food truck operators as they compete coast-to-coast. The winner takes home a fully loaded food truck to start his or her own business.
The show's Chicago stop, which was filmed in June, marks the semi-finals. The Food Network promises "a big surprise" as Emanuel teams up with host Tyler Florence.
This summer, Chicago saw the number of cook-onboard food trucks rise to 21, as several new additions were approved. These included Eastman Egg Company, Gelato D’Oro and Husky Hog BBQ.
There are now more than 120 food trucks roaming Chicago, according to the mayor's office. Several of these made history when they set up shop at Taste of Chicago in July.
The mayor's Food Network appearance airs at 8 p.m.
