CHICAGO — Strong storms could bring hail and frequent lightning Chicago Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds up to 40 miles per hour, half-inch-diameter hail and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is possible with a storm moving quickly into the city, an alert issued about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday said.

Wind gusts could cause small objects and trash bins to blow around, and people were advised to stay away from high outdoor objects like trees.

Roads could see standing water due to heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service, as brief but heavy downpours are possible.
