CHICAGO — A 54-year-old man died in Bridgeport Thursday after he hanged himself from construction equipment on the Stevenson Expressway, authorities said.

The man, who lived in west suburban Cicero, was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:13 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

State police said the man appears to have hanged himself from a piece of construction equipment parked on the shoulder of the Stevenson's northbound ramp — where it connects with the Dan Ryan Expressway over South Halsted Street.

An autopsy was slated for Friday.
