COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man busted for selling shotgun shells along a Safe Passage route in East Garfield Park allegedly told police that he wanted $3 per box but "ain't no one want to buy them."
Willie Robinson, 54, was arrested in the 2700 block of West Jackson Boulevard, part of the Safe Passage route to Calhoun North Elementary School, 2833 W. Adams St. The routes were set up for students to have a safe path to walk to school.
Residents spotted a man in a red hat selling shotgun shells out of a shopping cart as children were being released from school Tuesday, according to police reports.
Residents waved down a police officer assigned to an area including the Safe Passage route.
Police stopped Robinson and allegedly found a tote bag full of live ammunition.
According to police, Robinson told them, "I found the shells in a Dumpster. I was trying to get $3 a box. Ain't no one want to buy them."
