BRIDGEPORT — A new Chinese restaurant has opened on Archer Avenue, offering its brand of Cantonese food to the neighborhood.

"Archer Avenue has no Chinese food in Bridgeport. It helps the neighborhood a lot," said owner Sandy Li, owner of Archer Cafe at 2951 S. Archer Ave.

Li, a landlord with no cooking experience, transformed the former spa into the small cafe. For kitchen help, she's hired one of the cooks from Chinese Kitchen Sushi and Grill at 31st and Canal streets.

The menu is big on Chinese-American favorites like orange chicken, Mongolian beef, and sweet-and-sour pork. Many of the entrees are available in "party tray" sizes.

"We make everything fresh," she said. "Everybody from the neighborhood says it's very good."

There is also a lineup of fresh fruit smoothies, with flavors like mango, banana and watermelon. Li said they'll soon add dim sum options and Chinese buns to the menu.

Seating options are limited, with just four tables plus some counter space with stools. Much of the business comes from carryout and delivery, Li said.

The restaurant is offering a grand opening special of 20 percent off of purchases through Sunday.

Archer Cafe, 2951 S. Archer Ave., is open 11 a.m-9 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and is closed Sundays. Phone: 773-650-1505
