EDGEWATER — Crews began installing a stop light at the "very dangerous" intersection of North Broadway and Balmoral Avenue near Bromann Park this week.

Dan Luna, chief of staff to Ald. Harry Osterman (48th), said the Chicago Department of Transportation began "underground work" this week at the intersection, while the actual light would be erected sometime this fall.

"Knowing that this intersection is very dangerous," Luna said in an email, "Ald. Osterman requested that CDOT move forward with this installation."

Luna said a pedestrian was struck at the intersection in 2011 while trying to cross notoriously speedy North Broadway.

But even before then, a traffic study commissioned by then-Ald. Mary Ann Smith in 2007 recommended the stop light, he said.
