Recycling Bonanza at Independence Park: Electronics, Books, Bikes and More

IRVING PARK — As if the Independence Park Farmers Market wasn't eclectic enough — bellydancing, dog therapy, lawnmower blade sharpening — the Sept. 8 event is adding a recycling bonanza.

From 9 a.m. to noon, worn-out or obsolete electronics, bikes and books will be accepted at the market.

Electronics recycling will take place in the fieldhouse driveway, 3945 N. Springfield Ave. Unload cell phones, computers, DVD players, fax machines, VCRs, monitors, keyboards, MP3 players, televisions, printers, scanners and the like.

Working Bikes, a nonprofit that finds new homes for old bikes, will be stationed at the south end of the park's promenade. Bikes, bike parts and bike accessories will be accepted.

The Greater Independence Park Neighborhood Association's table at the market will offer books: leave a book, take a book or just judge other people's taste in reading material. Any books left at the end of the swap will be donated to Open Books.
