CHICAGO — A Washington Heights man hospitalized after his neighbor cut him with a chainsaw, said the attack was over a $30 bet.
Preston Smith, 55, spoke to reporters at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn Friday morning.
"I didn't want a confrontation with him," Smith said, saying he was in his car with his window rolled down when his neighbor attacked him.
Anthony Metcalf, 50, of the 1000 block of West 103rd Street was charged aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and is due in bond court Friday.
The men were drinking together when they began arguing about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, police said. Smith said the fight was because Metcalf said Smith owed him money.
"It's not much. $30," Smith said.
The argument escalated, ending with Metcalf picking up a chainsaw and cutting his neighbor's hand, police said.
Smith's fingers weren't severed, but were cut severely enough to send him to the hospital.
