LAKEVIEW — Chicago moms soon will have a new spot to shop for "hot" styles.
Minnesota-based fashion retailer Hot Mama has a goal of opening this winter at 3440 N. Southport Ave., said Jennifer Mahlik, the company's marketing director.
The clothing store debuted in 2004 after founder Megan Tamte struggled with shopping post-baby, according to the website. As Tamte's children grew older, her busy lifestyle demanded quick-and-easy outfits that went from day to night.
Hot Mama's goal is to "empower moms" and make them "look and feel hot," according to the site. It donates 1 percent of gross proceeds to charities helping mothers in the U.S. and internationally. In the last two years, it's doubled in size, and the Southport location will be one of many new Hot Mamas across the country.
The retailer has seven locations in Illinois, all in the suburbs. Southport Avenue is known for its young families and trendy "soccer moms," and experts have said the street is positioned for national retail growth.
