STREETERVILLE — The aptly named JIMMY, a cocktail lounge in The James Chicago hotel along the Magnificent Mile, will serve its first Mexican Juleps, Cucumber Vespers and Grilled Pineapple Mojitos Friday night.

David Rabin, a partner in the hotel group behind The James hotels in Chicago, Miami and New York, called the walnut-paneled cocktail bar "a little jewel box" with a 1970s-inspired decor designed by James Beard Award-winning designer Thomas Schlesser that's reminiscent of the Playboy Club's heyday in Chicago.

Mixologist Johnny Swet helped design the menu of cocktails, priced $15 to $18 and each featuring no fewer than five ingredients. ("Dirty Little Secret" includes olive brine, celery bitters and an A1 steak sauce infusion.)

Local designer Maria Pinto, who recently guest curated a fashion-focused exhibition at the Field Museum, was commissioned to design staff uniforms inspired by "classic silhouettes" for a Mad Men-era look, according to a release.

The light food menu includes goat cheese fondue and a high-end "Jell-O Pudding" with devil’s food cake, pinot noir Jell-O and raspberries.

JIMMY opens at 6 p.m. Friday, but regular hours run from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday.
