CHICAGO — A 43-year-old suburban man has died after he was hit by a pickup truck in Douglas last month, authorities said.

The man was walking through the intersection of South State and West 31st streets about 1 p.m. July 29 when he was struck by a 1994 Ford pickup truck, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

John Lauricella, of the 300 block of Musial Circle in southwest suburban Bolingbrook, was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries Saturday at 6:28 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The car's driver, 49-year-old Pedro Reyes-Cruz, claims he had a green light when Lauricella inexplicably walked out into the crosswalk — ignoring the pedestrian crossing signals. No witnesses could confirm or deny the claim, police said.

Reyes-Cruz, who lives in the 1400 block of North Bosworth Avenue in West Town, was given two citations: driving without a valid license and failure to exercise due care to a pedestrian in a roadway.

Major Accidents officers are investigating, Estrada said.
