CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department is expected to announce a new round of hirings, accepting applications Aug. 1.
According to the Mayor's Office, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy will announce Tuesday that the department will renew accepting applications Aug. 1, with details on that process to follow.
The department is looking to hold an exam for eligible applicants in December, with a set number of cadets then chosen to begin training.
The Mayor's Office says the new round of hirings will ensure that the department is "fully staffed." The department has added 429 new officers through seven separate graduations in the first two years of the Emanuel administration.
The department will hold an extensive outreach and recruitment campaign as part of the application process.
