IRVING PARK — The Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse runs an award-winning operation, largely thanks to financial support from the community, which helps maintain the greenhouse's facilities and slate of programming and services.

One huge source of that support: The park's annual fundraiser, "Evening in the Garden," is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave.

The event celebrates the greenhouse's mission of bringing urbanites closer to nature and local food. And it doesn't get much closer, or more local, than noshing on sweet and savory appetizers made from ingredients harvested straight from the park's gardens. (Rumor has it that currants have been picked for a mystery dessert.)

Guests are invited to stroll through the greenhouse and gardens while enjoying live music and brews from Half Acre and Virtue Cider.

Tickets are $40 if purchased in advance and $50 at the door for adults, $10 for children under the age of 12.
