CHICAGO — Police warned Chicago Lawn residents of a young man who broke into two neighborhood homes through windows early Sunday and tried to rape women as they slept.

In both incidents, the women were able to scare or fight off their attacker, police said.

The man went through the window of a home in the 6800 block of South Washtenaw Avenue about 3:30 a.m. and tried to rape a 39-year-old woman while she was sleeping, police said.

The woman was able to scare him off, and he fled.

He then broke into a home in the 7000 block of South Talman Avenue at 4 a.m. and tried to rape a sleeping 22-year-old woman, according to police. The woman fought the man off, and then her boyfriend intervened to help stop the attack, police said.

The man then took off from that home as well, police said.

A community alert issued by police described the attacker as a black man with medium to dark complexion, 19 to 25 years old, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and weighing 150 to 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, according to the alert.

Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at 312-747-8380.
