CHICAGO — An Auburn Gresham man was arrested for fatally shooting another at a West Englewood gas station Saturday night, police said.

Stanford Thompson, 25, of the 7500 block of South May Street, is accused of killing Eugene Clark, a 25-year-old who lived in the 7900 block of South Karlov Avenue.

Clark was shot about 11:30 p.m. Saturday while at a Marathon gas station in the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 1:42 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A woman who identified herself as Clark's mother said he was a "wonderful man" but declined to comment further.
