CHICAGO — Two people were questioned Sunday by police for a Friday night shooting that ended with a 6-year-old girl being shot in the chest, but they were released without being charged, police said.

The shooting occurred at 7:41 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of West 105th Street in Roseland.

The shooting, which neighborhood residents believe was the result of a gang conflict, occurred as dozens of people were attending a memorial service for Brandon Snype, who was killed by gunfire five years ago to the day in the same area.

"We were going to release some balloons and hold a candlelight vigil, but the guys shooting ended all that," said Vanessa Ross, Snype's mother.

The 6-year-old girl, identified as Quianna Tompkins, who Ross says is the child of her daughter's friend, was shot in her chest.

A 52-year-old woman, who Ross said was her sister-in-law, was also shot and had a graze wound.

Charges haven't been filed in the case.
