CHICAGO — A Portage Park woman is accused of killing four puppies by throwing them in a pond earlier this month, authorities said.

Francis M. Blake, 45, was seen throwing the animals in a pond on July 3, after which a neighbor "removed the four drowned and now dead puppies from the pond and buried them," assistant state's attorney Erin Antoinette said.

The puppies were later removed from their grave by authorities.

Blake was arrested Thursday after police searched her home and found seven emaciated dogs, including one with visible injuries, according to the police department.

Those dogs were removed from Blake's home.

Blake, of the 3500 block of North Narragansett Avenue, was charged with four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and four felony counts of animal torture.

She was also charged with seven misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and 11 misdemeanor counts of violation of animal owner duties.

Her bond was set at $25,000 Friday afternoon.
