CHICAGO — A Chicago Lawn man has been charged with murder in a June 13 hit-and-run, authorities said.

Jose Gasco Garcia, 28, of the 6300 block of South Francisco Avenue, was arrested Saturday after police received a tip, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

About 10:15 p.m. on June 13, Garcia allegedly struck a pedestrian with his SUV in the 5800 block of 73rd Street in southwest suburban Bedford Park, authorities said.

Charles Lawton, a 35-year-old who lived in the 100 block of Prairie Street in Ottawa, Ill., was hospitalized for his injuries and died Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Cops arrested Garcia in his home Saturday. He was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery.

Garcia is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday at the Fifth Municipal District Courthouse in Bridgeview.
