LAKEVIEW — Meinl's in town.

Descendents of the original Julius Meinl, creator of the Vienna-based coffee shop, will be hopping into the Southport location on Monday to talk shop.

Southport's Julius Meinl, 3601 N. Southport Ave., will host Thomas Meinl, Sr., four generations removed from Julius Meinl, and his daughter, Dr. Christina Rohla-Meinl, on Monday at 7 p.m.

The two Meinl descendants will spend about an hour talking about the company's various coffees and its long history, according to store employee Sky Ohlicher. People interested in joining can call ahead to reserve a spot.

The more-than-150-year-old company started off as a spice shop in Vienna, according to the Julius Meinl website. Now the company sells its coffee in more than 70 countries.

Julius Meinl's two Viennese-style coffee houses in the U.S. are both in Chicago, with one in Lakeview and the other in North Center, 4363 N. Lincoln Ave. It also has a patisserie at 4115 N. Ravenswood Ave.
