CHICAGO — A South Shore woman was charged with arson and domestic battery after setting fire to her boyfriend's couch Wednesday, leaving six people injured, officials said.

Whitney Holmes, 27, of the 2000 block of East 72nd Street, allegedly started the fire about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard.

A man injured in the fire told officers that he had an argument with his girlfriend, and she torched his couch, police said.

Five adults and a child were injured and taken to area hospitals, the Fire Department said. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The fire was brought under control in the four-story apartment building by about 11:10 p.m., according to the Fire Department. Responders rescued some victims, authorities said.

Holmes was expected to appear in bond court Saturday.
