BRIDGEPORT — In another bloody year in Chicago, the Bridgeport, McKinley Park and Chinatown neighborhoods were not immune to the rampant violence.

DNAinfo.com Chicago on Thursday published a comprehensive graphic of the murders in the city this year, including a neighborhood map and breakdown. The victims included two men killed in Bridgeport at the beginning of 2013. Last year, four people were murdered in the neighborhood.

Peter Joseph and Allen Smiley, both of the 8100 block of South Burnham Ave., were killed in the early morning hours outside Kevin's Hamburger Heaven restaurant, 554 W. Pershing Road.

Deering District Cmdr. Joe Gorman has said the shootings were gang-related, a "crime of opportunity and potentially a hit."

In McKinley Park, 18-year Eduardo Venagas was gunned down last month after a memorial remembering his brother who died in a car wreck. In 2012, McKinley Park saw four homicides.

The New City area, encompassing Back of the Yards and Canaryille, saw seven murders. Next door Brighton Park saw two shooting deaths. In 2012, 19 people were murdered in New City, and seven in Brighton Park.

The complete timeline, including a heat map, neighborhood-by-neighborhood tally and individual stories for each victim can be found here.
