Firefighter Injured in Chimney Collapse in West Englewood

CHICAGO — A firefighter is in stable condition after being injured in a chimney collapse while battling a West Englewood house fire.

The incident occurred about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday morning while a crew fought a blaze on the second floor of a home in the 6800 block of South Winchester Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.

The firefighter hurt his back and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition. He is now listed in stable condition.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
