CHICAGO — A postal worker was charged with drunken driving after he allegedly crashed a mail truck and injured himself while on duty, the Tribune reported.

Thomas Hackney, 40, of the 7200 block of Carolina Avenue in Hammond, Ind., was charged with a misdemeanor DUI about 5:29 p.m. Friday, police confirmed.

Hackney was driving a white postal service truck in the 300 block of North Ashland Avenue in the Near West Side when he crashed, police sources told the Tribune. A police report said Hackney smelled of alcohol and had a blood alcohol level of 0.204 percent. That's 2-1/2 times the legal limit, which is 0.08.

Hackney is slated to appear in court on Aug. 26.
