CHICAGO — Witnesses to a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and seven others wounded Saturday evening said the bloody scene was "like a movie."

Shots rang out about 6 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Flournoy Street, police said. The shooter, who appeared to be carrying a large assault weapon, drove up in a dark-colored SUV and opened fire, according to witnesses.

"It was like a movie," said one shaken up witness, who did not want to reveal her name. She said the gun was as long as her arm.

Terry Patterson, 48, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 6:26 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Seven other people were wounded in the shooting, police said. Five were taken to Stroger Hospital — four in serious-to-critical condition and one in fair condition, according to the fire department. Two more victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, one in fair condition and one in serious-to-critical condition.

A woman who arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting said her grandmother was out on her porch getting fresh air when she was shot, and that there have been several shootings in the area recently. The woman's condition was not immediately known.
